The National New Generation of Artificial Intelligence Development Plan (Guo Fa [2017] No. 35) is the Government’s effort to speed up technological revolution and industrial transformation in the city.

The guidelines are a part of AI@SH (Smart Shanghai) project and have been announced at the time when AI is profoundly changing the mode of economic and social development around the world.

Six areas have majorly been identified in the new guidelines: manufacturing; financial and commercial; urban management; public services; transportation and logistics; and health sector.

The Government has also underlined the technological solutions such as Man-Machine Collaboration, Improvement in Data Analytics, Rectification of Pattern Recognition Software, Enhancement in Decision Aids, Intelligent Recognition Technology and Research Into Cognitive Computing, respectively for the six defined areas.

Capitalising on the AI trend, Shanghai Municipal Government aims to ensure the city’s future economic and social development using AI technology and establish Shanghai as one of the country’s leading centres for AI development by 2020.

In recent years, AI is being widely applied in all fields and industries including apparels and textiles, where it is used in design, manufacturing, retailing, and supply chain management.
