Online shoppers from non-European Union (EU) countries searched for UK based fashion brands on their smartphones in the first quarter of this year, resulting in a 13 per cent YoY increase in the searches, according to a recent report. Italy topped the list for online mobile searches for UK brands within the EU with 31 per cent YoY growth in Q1.
The highest annual growth in the online search activity was experienced in fashion, says the British Retail Consortium(BRC)-Google Online Retail Monitor.
The report says that searches originating from London accounted for 23 per cent of the total searches, while those from the North and Yorkshire accounted for 26 per cent of the total searches.
The report’s findings reveal that online shopping is continuing to grow. As retailers are working towards improving their online channels for their customers, the online retail search activity can be expected to continue its upward growth trend, said Helen Dickinson, CEO, BRC.
Retail activity in Q1 reduces owing to the cooling off period after Christmas, said Martijn Bertisen, retail director, Google. He said that the online retail activity was lower than Q4, however it was higher than the earlier quarters in a lot of categories due to the cold weather in the UK in February.
