Amazon could overtake Walmart as the U.S.’ top apparel seller in 2018.
Analysts from Wells Fargo and Morgan Stanley made the prediction based on recent sales.
Amazon has been putting a major focus on fashion lately. J. Crew is the latest popular brand to partner with Amazon. And according to Bloomberg, the retailer has filed for more trademarks on apparel lines. It hasn’t publicly commented on those plans.
Amazon’s success in the clothing industry is seen as not-so-good news for traditional department stores, like Macy’s, which are working to keep up with the e-commerce company in sales.
Amazon’s valuation reached $1 trillion earlier this month. It’s the second publicly traded U.S. company to hit that mark.
