Under Armour, Inc has announced the launch of its operations in India. The business, which will be operated through a fully owned subsidiary, will be run by Tushar Goculdas, managing director of Under Armour India. Under Armour is a leading inventor, marketer and distributor of branded performance athletic apparel, footwear and accessories.
Designed to make all athletes better, Under Armour’s innovative athletic performance products will soon be available through franchised partner retail locations and e-commerce platforms. The brand’s first store is expected to launch in the coming weeks. The company’s products are worn by some of the world’s best athletes including NBA all-star Stephen Curry; golfer Jordan Speith; heavyweight boxing champion Anthony Joshua; actor/producer Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson; the most decorated Olympian of all-time, swimmer Michael Phelps; and principal ballet dancer Misty Copeland, among others.
“We look forward to introducing athletes in India to Under Armour’s performance athletic apparel, footwear and accessories – an incredibly important market as we continue to grow our brand around the world,” Jason Archer, managing director of Under Armour’s Asia-Pacific region, said in a press release.
Goculdas is joining Under Armour after nearly a decade with Adidas where he most recently served as brand director-Emerging Markets and was based in Dubai. In this capacity he was responsible for overall brand strategy with a focus on market expansion and higher profitability. Prior to this, he held various sales and marketing roles at Adidas in India and was responsible for growing the brand by making significant enhancements to Adidas’ athlete portfolio, deploying innovative campaigns and executing strong consumer engagement programmes.
Before joining Adidas, Goculdas worked at Boston Consulting Group advising clients across automobile, consumer goods, consumer appliances, retail companies among others. He has also held roles at Colgate-Palmolive and Whirlpool.
