The Scottish Centre of Excellence for textiles is all set to open in 2019 in Hawick to address issues of shortage of skilled workforce in textiles sector.
The centre will be committed to provide full training to the existing and future workers.
Besides being a training platform for 16 to 19-year-olds, the centre will also offer courses on management and leadership for its existing employees as well.
Corroborating further, Mark Rowley, Scottish Borders Council’s executive member for business and economic development, said that the initiative will help addressing the business issues in textiles and knitwear industry.
Additionally, it will also help businesses to plan things better and minimise the requirement to outsource the work overseas.
The project is in partnership with Scottish Borders Council, Skills Development Scotland, Scottish Enterprise, Scottish Development International, the Department for Work and Pensions and local textile and knitwear manufacturing businesses.
Earlier this year, the project was awarded £ 610,000 from the Scottish Government.
